Welcome, English-speaking guests
You have found our journal, and you have probably noticed that it is written in French.
That is on purpose. We write these pages the way we talk at the dinner table: a recipe Katia tried last week, a castle we visited on Sunday, the morning our border collie decided that greeting guests was her job. Translated, those pages would lose the very thing that makes them worth reading.
But we have not left you empty-handed. Here is what we have prepared in English.
Planning your days
Things to do in the Berry — twelve days out, each one tried from our own front door, with real driving times rather than distances on a map.
Things to do in Argenton-sur-Creuse — the town ten minutes away, with its houses reflected in the river, the gilded Virgin watching over the rooftops, and the Roman site next door.
The Éguzon Chestnut Festival — twenty thousand people and fifteen hundred kilos of roasted chestnuts, on the last weekend of October, twenty-five minutes from the house.
Breaking a long drive
A20 stopover — we are five minutes from junction 17, halfway between Paris and Toulouse. Many of our guests stop here for one night on their way south, and again on the way back.
The house itself
Our four rooms and the gîte, a self-catering cottage for longer stays.
Our table — we cook dinner and we sit down with you. It is not a restaurant service; it is supper with the people who live here.
